Welcome!

Welcome to my little blue cottage. Grab a cup of tea or coffee... or a glass of wine & let's sit on my porch and talk.

We left suburbia in May 2009 to pursue our off-the-grid dream of building a cabin in the mountains. We completed our goal - however, sometimes life gets in the way. You think you've got everything planned and then you get a curve ball and everything changes! The cabin is still there - now a vacation destination for us - but we're back in suburbia, living in the noise and lights. I've exchanged my steel-toed work boots and my hiking boots, jeans and sweatshirts for heels, skirts and dressier outfits.

Even though we had moved to the mountains, our families were still here and we felt like we needed a "home base" when we came back to visit - so our friends had very generously rented this house to us. We were able to keep a few of our belongings here - a half-furnished kitchen, a bed, television, washer/dryer - just enough to make it comfortable for short stays. We had the rest of our major furniture and belongings that we had intended to take to the cabin in a storage unit.

We both have aging parents and decided that it was much easier to be within an 90 to 130 miles rather than 700+ miles if we were needed. Our friends offered to sell us with conditions we felt we'd be foolish to pass it up. We emptied our storage unit and called the cottage home!

I'm working part time, four days a week, so when DH (darling husband) goes to visit his father I find projects to do like: painting the bathroom, the dining room and living room. He's always surprised when he comes home and things have changed!

I'm hoping to share some of my decorating ideas - some that turned out well... and some that turned out not so well - gluten free recipes, thoughts and ideas about urban gardening, urban chickens and urban living in general.

Please feel free to share your thoughts.
